APPRAISALS & INSURANCE

Appraisals

I am not an appraiser. It would be a conflict of interest to appraise my own work so I work with an independent appraiser who has been in business since 2003 and is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. They are fair, consistent and accurate.

Appraisals can be done on a single piece of jewellery or as a set. The cost starts at $45 for a standard appraisal and comes with passport sized documentation including a photograph of the piece, detialed description and appraised value. If your insurance company requires an appraisal to offer coverage or to file a claim then this appraisal will more than suffice.

The turnaround time for my appraisals is 1-2 business days and can even be rushed for same-day service for $25 more ($70 total).

Insurance

Most insurance policies cover a certain dollar amount of jewellery. Find out what your homeowner or renter insurance company requires to ensure you are fully covered. In some cases it may be as simple as the detailed invoice I provide and in others an appraisal is needed.

TIP: When you shop for a "ring rider" policy, make sure to read the fine print. A good policy will cover every potential ring-threatening situation, from theft and damage to accidentally dropping it in the garbage disposal.
